Taking A Seat

This has been one crazy week! It started off with Grace (Grace Happens) inviting Alex and I to join her for dinner with .....drum roll......EDDIE ROSS and JAITHAN!!!! It was such a crazy night that I will promise to share pictures as soon as I get them!

On to design projects.... Spring is almost here, and I'm finding myself craving more color! (By the way - the Master Bed projects are still in the works. I'm waiting to get my next big project back from my "work room" aka Mama Seagrass's house.) Anyways, when our house was under construction we needed a quick-fix to our bar stools in the kitchen. We found an absolute steal at Bed, Bath, and Beyond - we found these for $3.99!!!!!

They are WAY too tall and need to be cut down, and painting them has been on my to-do list for a long time. Reading House Beautiful's issue on all things blue gave me a push to get painting.

I loved these two color swatches from them.

This picture seems to be popping up all over the blog-world and I love the pop of soft blue with the wicker chair in the all white kitchen.

Plus I feel like it would really pick up the blue in our light.

I'm off to go talk David into cutting our stools down, and possibly squeeze a trip to Home Depot in.

We're Going Bowling!!

It's true - we're going to the Rose Bowl Flea Market!!

Last week I posted on my recent trip to Pasadena. Sweet, and very talented Grace from Grace Happens blog, mentioned a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market hosted by another amazing designer - Eddie Ross! Last week Grace made a trip into the store and by the time she had left, Alex, Grace and I had official plans to go!

(Grace - I hope you're not upset for posting this pic from your blog!)

**On a side note - if you haven't checked out Grace's blog yet, you must! She has AMAZING style! Check out her beautiful kitchen!

.....and here is her breath-taking master bathroom

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it - I'm going with 2 incredibly talented women - to meet up with one very talented man! I also can't wait to finally meet some fellow Southern California bloggers! (shout out to Shelly! : )

I have a feeling there will be quite a few photo-ops so I promise I'll to post them!

Spotted!

*Vanity is complete! Reveal coming soon!*

BUT FIRST!......
I no longer work Mondays, and with David gone at work, I tend to get in trouble! : )

Let me explain - my Mom and I have been talking about, for a while now, how we've been wanting to take a whole day and explore Old Pasadena. My mom grew up in the hills above Pasadena in a little town called La Canada. When we would go visit my grandparents we would always head down to Pasadena. I absolutely LOVE Pasadena! They have the most incredible architecture (everything from white clapboard with black shutters, to authentic craftsman houses.) We decided to finally set a day, wake up early, and drive up to Pasadena. Our plan was to poke around the shops and then drive through the streets to check out (ok and let's be honest, take pictures of) all the cute houses in the neighborhoods.

{We started off poking around the stores - which are a close second on the charming scale to the houses}

We ended up just driving through the streets, not really knowing where we were going. Right at the end of our "touring," we decided to turn down this street.

{Look familiar?}

We were driving by this house, where the sun was JUST going down behind the roof.....but I was pretty sure...........

It was the FATHER OF THE BRIDE HOUSE!!!!!!!

I couldn't believe it!! The movie supposedly takes place in San Morino, but I can definitely confirm the house is in Pasadena! Here is a shot of the house in all her glory on the set of the movie

{View of the living room}

{Just had to include this - it's my favorite scene from the movie!}

The FOB house wasn't the only amazing house - I also shamelessly shot some pictures of these fabulous houses!

Hope your week is off to a great start!

All Dressed Up

On to project #2! This has been a little bit of a challenging project (Not to mention the purchasing of 9 curtain rods, and about 17 trips to 3 different stores.) But who doesn't love a little bit of a challenge?

I have a confession.....for the last 2 years I've had naked windows. I've really been trying to prioritize my projects. What needs to be done, and what is just something I want to be done - 2 very different things! Well the naked windows/curtain situation jumped to the top of the list when I peeled back the rug underneath our dining table and saw a yellow square (where the rug sits) staring back at me. Yes, it was time and no, I do not clean under my rug often.
{Please excuse the non-hemmed curtains on the left}

I'll post an overall picture as soon as I haul out all of the empty boxes, and mistake rod boxes!

Prime Time

I'm trying not to let as much time pass as last time, while I'm chugging away at my projects. Here's the update on the vanity. Sanding is done - woo hoo!! By the way, not my favorite thing to do! *Cue the violins here. My arms are SO sore!!!! But, it is complete none-the-less. Today was priming day.

{Primed drawers catching some sun}

I'm starting to think about how I'm going to accessorize my new vanity. How perfect is this mirror??? I think that white, green, and old pine are quite possibly my idea of the perfect color palette.

We have this faux bamboo mirror in the store right now, that I would probably paint a soft creamy, yellow if I brought it home. But, I think it might be just a little bit too small and wouldn't quite have the same effect as the mirror above.

I'm off to paint - pictures to follow!

Love and Apologies

I promise I haven't fallen off the face of the earth!!! And I promise I haven't been neglecting my blog - I've had LOT'S of projects in the works! But, first of all, I hope everyone had a fabulous Valentine's Day!

I read that quite a few people were experiencing beautiful, snow-kissed V-Days. Which is the exact opposite of the weather we experienced here - 72 degrees and sunny!

{cherry blossoms from local flower mart}

On to what I've been up to!
Remember this vanity?

At first I thought the chippy (and let's be honest - a little dingy and dirty) paint was charming. I woke up the other morning and felt like it was yelling "PAINT ME PLEASE! ....and while you're at it, would you mind picking up some new hardware too?" So that has been project #1

I'm going to give her a new coat of white paint, with a little bit of distressing to keep her original vintage look.

{and as requested, I picked up some new hardware - simple, brushed nickle, cup pulls - my favorite!}

I'll post on project #2 next! The final product is almost done!

Not Bad, Ikea, Not Bad

I tend to have a little bit of a love, hate relationship with the infamous IKEA. I tend to lean more towards the hate side of things when the little buffet I bought back in college wobbles like a fat man with little legs any time I need to move it. But, I love love love the prices! And every once in a while, they have really good finds! I made the trek to Ikea this last weekend for some curtains (post on that soon!) and came home with some pretty cute finds.

{cream, enamel pitcher $6.99}
{Hydrangeas from Farmer's Market}
{cute, label-less, water jug $2.00}
{Natural Doormat $7.99}

I'm actually threatening of heading back and getting a few more of the clear water jugs after receiving this book.
David and I decided to tackle registering, and we received this book from William Sonoma. I saw this picture of a Summer bbq. I love the idea of using the glass, water jugs scattered on the table for water.

I didn't come home with any of these and I'm kind of regretting it - they're only $0.49!

How cute would these be at that Summer bbq? Hmmmmm do I sense a future theme?

Dear Ikea,

I'm back on the side of loving you. I'm so glad that you are embracing your cottage side. Well done, Ikea, well done!

Love, Melissa
